For Fernando Alonso the session showed up a significant failure by Ferrari to make a dent in the dominance of Red Bull.
Jenson Button's McLaren suffered a total loss of power in Qualifying 2 under the disapproving eyes of Ron Dennis in the garage which pushes him down into 12th position.
Jenson yesterday posited the theory that perhaps P2 would be better than Pole but this seems to have been rubbished today, with all of the teams trying to line up on the odd side of the grid. The even side of the grid would appear to have no grid whatsoever, so whether Lewis will get away decently tomorrow is a crucial question both for McLaren and for Fernando's title hopes.
Grosjean qualified in 4th but takes a 5 place grid penalty which helps to move Fernando up to 8th position and the slippy side of the grid.
The Lotus team have really pulled up their socks since Free Practice and, Kimi takes over 4th from Grosjean as he moves back on the grid.
Michael came in 5th while Rosberg couldn't put a lap together and ended up in 17th.
Caterham were comprehensively outqualified by both Marussia's.
The real problem seems to be getting heat into the tyres.
